A Plumbing Noise Call That Led to a Toilet Rebuild

Plumbing noises can send you looking in the wrong direction. On this visit, the homeowner’s concern involved the water softener and water pressure. Once we checked the plumbing, an upstairs toilet turned out to be contributing to the intermittent water hammer.

What the inspection found

Inside the toilet, worn components needed attention, and the tank was loose. Finding those problems gave us a specific repair to make instead of starting with a new piece of water-treatment equipment.

The completed repair

We rebuilt the existing toilet and installed a new supply line. The water-hammer issue was resolved during the visit.

There was no need to replace this toilet or install a pressure-reducing valve for the repair we completed. Your home may have a different cause, which is why we start by checking what is actually happening.

A separate softener adjustment

We also found that the water softener’s clock was twelve hours off. That put its regeneration cycle in the afternoon, when water was being used, rather than at the intended time. We corrected the clock as a separate part of the visit.

Sometimes a service call turns up more than one issue. Here, addressing the toilet and correcting the softener’s schedule were two different steps toward getting the plumbing back on track.

Start with the finding, then choose the repair

If you’ve been hearing a bang or thump in the pipes, tell us when it happens. Does it follow a toilet refill? Does it happen when a particular fixture shuts off? Those everyday observations help us understand where to begin. You don’t need to diagnose the problem before calling.

We’ll explain what we find and the repair we recommend. Learn more about our toilet repairs, water softener services and water-pressure concerns, or schedule a visit with Gulfview.
